Caleb Dowe is a self-taught artist based in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Using fine-tip pens and brush pens he creates detailed, ink-based intuitive drawings that often begin without much of a plan. Most of his pieces are stream-of-consciousness work, which act as a meditation as well as an emotional release.
Caleb has been a lifelong doodler, but his specific style really emerged as he began practicing quieting a busy mind through art. Art became not just a habit, but a grounding practice. The images that surface in his work, faces, eyes, symbols, and abstract forms, feel as though they rise from a place deeper than thought. His inspiration draws from mysticism, spirituality, and personal introspection.
His work often does not always aim to tell a clear narrative; instead, is trying to reflect shifting states of mind and spirit as they evolve in real time. His hopes are to offer viewers their own space to reflect, explore, or simply feel something.
